Name, Pace, & Track
Hi Mrs. Deale! My name is Adrienne Gasbarro.
For Segment 1 of Chemistry on flvs, my goal is to achieve the Accelerated Pace! Which means...
10-15 hours each week on virtual school. As of now, 2 hours each day is what I'm striving to keep up with. I'm also taking other classes online, so aside from this, I'll be spending separate hours working on those classes.
Hobby & Fun Fact
I live on a lake and my absolute FAVORITE thing to do is be in the water either tubing, skiing, or just swimming in it. I also LOVE to tan!
Something people don't know about me when they first meet me is that...... I'M A TWIN!
Oh, and my favorite color is orange.
Three Things In My Life
1. In my free time, I really like to bake. I think baking involves chemistry because A) the amount of heat/particles transferred from the oven or microwave to the object & B) the outcome of whatever is being baked changing significantly from its original form, to it's now heated/baked finished form.
2. This one is without a doubt my favorite; doing my hair. I'm always curling, crimping, and flat ironing my hair, whether it being for school, a competition, or just for the fun of it. I think doing my hair involves chemistry because of the heat being applied to it. The heat changes my hair from it's natural, original form, to a heated, in place-finished form. (Much like baking in #1). It also involves electricity, which is another example of chemistry.
3. Just like almost every other person, I eat a lot throughout the day; which I think is also an example of chemistry. Eating provides the body with energy. It allows us to both inhale and exhale oxygen, carbon, nitrogen, and hydrogen; along with giving us the nutrients we need. (Picture on right)
Two Things to Learn and Any Concerns
- One thing I'm hoping to learn in this segment is Significant Figures. I was sick when my class was taught this and when I went over it, I didn't really understand it, which didn't make it any easier for me to try to catch up. I know the overall concept of sig figs, but I'm not really sure about when to apply it, or the rules for it.
- Another thing I'm hoping to learn is about the different types of tools that scientists use in labs. I'm also interested in the different types of properties of chemicals and how different types of chemicals interact/react with one another. I've always been interested in this!
Concerns: My biggest concern overall about this course is not being able to understand things. Florida Virtual School is very new to me and different, and I'm worried if I wasn't able to do the best sitting in a classroom, then I'm not sure how I'm going to do very well on this! Although, it could just be that this is a new experience to me and I may find it very helpful and easy later on or in the future!
